How to read a Contract Note?

A Contract Note is a formal document issued by the broker after the execution of a trade. It serves as proof of the transaction and includes important details such as:

  • Transaction details: Date, time, and details of the stock(s) traded
  • Order execution price: The price at which the order was executed
  • Brokerage fees: Total brokerage charged, including applicable GST and other charges
  • Taxes: Securities Transaction Tax (STT), SEBI charges, etc.
  • Settlement details: T+1 or T+2 date, settlement amount
  • Transaction type: Whether it’s a buy, sell, or short sell

The contract note also contains your account number, broker’s name, and legal terms for the transaction.
